Box Score Game One

Box Score Game Two

BLOOMSBURG-- Rich Letts (Parkesburg/Octorara) and Matt Allen (Williamsport/South Williamsport) each knocked in a pair of runs to lead the Bloomsburg University baseball team to a 7-6 victory over Shepherd in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday. In the nightcap, the Huskies lost by a score of 17-6.

In game one, Bloomsburg got off to a quick start scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The inning was paced by a two RBI double by Allen that knocked in Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) and Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown). In the second and third innings, the Huskies increased their lead with a run in both frames that stretched the Bloomsburg lead to 5-1 going into the fourth.

It was there that Shepherd began to make a furious comeback as the Rams scored five runs over the next three innings to take a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. In that inning, Zach Silver (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) reached base on a walk and Keenan McCann (Hanover Twp. /Hanover) got on with a single. From there, Bloomsburg took advantage of a two-out Shepherd error that enabled both McCann and Silver to score and give the Huskies back the lead at 7-6. In the top of the seventh, Grant Kernaghan (Upper Darby/Upper Darby) came in and shut down the Shepherd offense to preserve the win for Bloomsburg and in the process earn his fifth save of the year. Preston Hitchcock (Laceyville/Lock Haven) earned his first win of the year on the mound for the Huskies after an inning of relief work.

In game two, Shepherd took control from the start, using a nine-run second inning to pull away from Bloomsburg. Donofry led the way at the plate in the losing effort going 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

The Huskies return to action on Friday when they visit West Chester beginning at 1:00 p.m.
